Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced an increase in the prize money for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) TotalEnergies Algeria 2022.
In a statement by the federation on Friday, January 27, it was highlighted that the increase was by 60 percent.
Currently, the tournament is ongoing with the final set to be played on February 4 at the Nelson Mandela stadium in Algiers.

“This year, the winner of the trophy will receive the sum of 2 million dollars (Ksh248.9 million) against 1,250,000 dollars (Ksh155.6 million) for the previous champion two years ago.
“The total amount of prize money allocated for the tournament has been increased to 7,900,000 USD (Ksh982.7 million), compared to 5,450,000 USD (Ksh677.9 million) in total for the countries that participated in the previous edition,” part of the statement read.
It was highlighted that CAF President Patrice Motsepe approved the decision to increase the funding as part of the federation's strategy to increase the commercial value of African competitions.
Each team participating in the tournament will receive funds with the runner-up set to receive $800,000 (Ksh99.5 million), while the third- and fourth-placed teams will receive $500,000 (Ksh62.2 million) each.
Losers in the quarter-finalists will receive $400,000 (Ksh49.7 million) each, while the two countries that finish second in the three-team groups will win $300,000 (Ksh37.3 million) each.
Similarly, the third-placed countries in the four-team groups will each receive 300,000 (Ksh37.3 million)
The countries that will be the lowest-placed teams in all groups will receive $200,000 (Ksh24.8 million) each.
