Over Ksh 1.8M up for Grabs in Mt Kenya Mountain Race

Meru County will be the host of the Mt Kenya mountain Run scheduled to take place on February 26.

The purpose of the race is to raise money to support environmental conservation and create awareness of the high prevalence rate of cancer in the County which is ranked second after Nairobi in Kenya.

According to the organisers of the race, a target of Ksh50 million was set as the amount to be collected.

To participate in the race one has to pay a registration fee. Individual athletes will pay Ksh1,000, Junior Runners (Aged 18-20 years) Ksh500 and Corporate organizations will register with Ksh50,000 for a group of up to 10 people.

The race has four categories which include Men and Women Elite Team (13km), Fun Runners (13km), Men and Women Junior Runners and Men and Women Keep The Doctor Away Run.

Each category has prize money except for the Men and Women Keep the Doctor Away Run as it is a wellness run for veterans and guests. 

The winners in the Men and Women Elite Team will get Ksh500,000. The first and second runners-up will get Ksh300,000 and Ksh100,000 respectively.

In the Fun Runners field the cash award category is Ksh20,000 for the winner, Ksh10,000 for the first runners-up, and Ksh5,000 for the second runners-up.

Also under the cash award will be the junior runners aged 18 to 20 with the winner receiving Ksh10,000. The first and second runners-up will be awarded Ksh 5,000 and Ksh3,000 respectively.
