It was expected that the venue will host the Madaraka Day celebration. However, the celebrations will no longer take place on the grounds and will happen at the Moi Stadium in Embu.
Currently, the Njukiri Grounds serves as a workshop for precast slabs for benches among other infrastructure needed in the construction of Moi Stadium.
Accompanied by Sports PS Jonathan Mueke they also inspected the ongoing facelift at the Moi Stadium in Embu Town.
The facelift of 20,000 capacity Moi Stadium is expected to approximately cost Kshs300 million.
“We expect that within the next 45 days, the structure will be up, and the rest of the amenities put together.
“Already there is a lot of work going on. Hosting the celebrations at Njukiri would have required an additional two months which we do not have,” PS Omollo stated.
It was added that President William Ruto will do the groundbreaking of the project during his visit on June 1, 2023.
