Multiple world cup champions France and Kenya have agreed to work together to develop youth football in both countries.

This comes after a deal was signed on Tuesday evening, February 21, 2023, in Nairobi.

According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Arts and Sports, the agreement would also see sports infrastructural development in both nations.

"Kenya and France signed the instrument of intent to cooperate in developing infrastructure for sports and the arts.

“While also opening the door to technical cooperation in youth football development with French minister for foreign trade, economic attractiveness and French nationals abroad, Olivier Becht," a statement from the Sports Ministry read.

The move comes at a period when sports infrastructure in Kenya is in deplorable conditions, with none of the national stadiums good enough to host international football matches.

The poor state of the stadiums recently cost the Eastern African sports powerhouse an opportunity to host the biannual World Athletics Championships.

Renovations works have been done in the near past at both the Nyayo National Stadium and the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, but have not helped to solve the problem.

Elsewhere, the sports ministry seeks to integrate pageantry into its broader talent promotion agenda and branding of the country.

CS Namwamba stated that the government would support the current miss world Kenya Chantou Kwamboka in her bid for the universal crown.

Namwamba added that Kwamboka would play a key role in future events around arts and sports.
