Kenya Morans coach Liz Mills is set to return to the country in July so as to prepare the national basketball team for the FIBA Afro-Basket 2021 finals held in  Kigali, Rwanda in August.

The Australian who guided Kenya to the continent’s flagship championships in nearly three decades, said she cherished the duel against Africa’s big boys.

Mills, who made history as the first female head coach to lead a team to the continental showpiece, was impressed by the team’s display in the February qualifiers in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Morans beat 11-time champions Angola 74-71 at the buzzer but went down 69-51 to Senegal and 71-44 to Mozambique who did not make it to the next phase.

The Australian basketball coach, who has been working in Africa for the past decade as head coach and assistant coach, is looking forward to leaving a mark at the FIBA Afro-Basket 2021 edition as she best believes that the players have all it takes to put up an outstanding performance at the tournament.

Coach Mills also believes that the Afrobasket in Rwanda's capital will be a stepping stone for the team to build on as they prepare for the 2023 FIBA world cup qualifiers later this year.

Kenya have been pooled in Group ‘C’ alongside favourites Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and the fast-rising Mali during the draws conducted over the weekend in Kigali
