Liverpool's Wijnaldum Set to Join PSG

Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum has signed a three-year deal with Paris St-Germain after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer. 

The Netherlands midfielder opted against signing a new contract at Anfield and moved to the French capital after being linked with Barcelona. 

PSG are understood to have made a better offer than Barca with manager Mauricio Pochettino's presence also thought to trigger Wijnaldum's decision. 

The former Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven midfielder made 237 appearances for the Merseyside Reds, helping Jurgen Klopp's side win the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League a year later. 

He switched to Anfield from Newcastle United in the 2016 season and went on to be a practical ever-present in Jürgen Klopp’s team and a pivotal figure in their collection of four major trophies .

It was the mercurial midfielder's  powerful, season finish on the final day of his debut season that unlocked Middlesbrough and set Klopp’s men on course for a 3-0 win that secured a return to the Champions League. 

Wijnaldum narrated that he is happy to join the French giants as it is a club with great heritage and hopes to leave a mark in his career with the club.
