Former champions Spain endured a frustrating night in their opening in Euro 2020 when they were held to a 0-0 draw by a disciplined Sweden side in Seville.

Despite enjoying the majority of possession Luis Enrique's side  were unable to take advantage of the good opportunities their build-up play yielded with Alvaro Morata missing clear opportunities to score.

Dani Olmo also saw a close-range header tipped round the post by Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen who was arguably the man of the match.

Sweden's best chance fell to Alexander Isak, who muscled his way in for a shot that deflected off a Spanish defender, hit the post and looped straight to grateful keeper Unai Simon in the first half.

Isak also fashioned a great opportunity for partner Marcus Berg, who somehow managed to steer a shot from near point-blank range wide at the back post.

Spain’s preparations have been  overshadowed by the fallout of positive Covid-19 tests for two players and squad selection controversy.

The draw in Seville means Slovakia have the early advantage in Group E courtesy of their surprise 2-1 win over Poland earlier on.

Milan Skriniar's fine strike on the turn from the edge of the penalty area secured the three points for Slovakia.

In another match, Scotland's first match at a men's major finals in 23 years ended in home defeat as they were silenced 2-0 by the Czech Republic at the Hampden Park.

Patrik Schick's incredible halfway-line goal in the second half was the highlight of the day as it deflated the hardworking Scotts.

The lanky forward had scored a brilliant header in the first half to silence around 9,000 fans who had come to cheer Steve Clarke’s boys.

Scotland now go to Wembley on Friday to face England who beat Croatia 1-0 on Monday.
