Emerging Stars Thump Liberty in Build Up as Ten More Called Up for CECAFA Assignment

Kenya U23 Emerging Stars beat FKF Division One side Liberty Sports 4-0 in a friendly match played on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the GEMS Cambridge Grounds.

The team under the tutelage of Stanley Okumbi is preparing for next month’s CECAFA Senior challenge cup to be held in Ethiopia.

Stars goals were all scored in the second half through John Njuguna, Josphat Lupaga,Faraj Ominde and Moses Shikanda .

Kenya will battle out with Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Rwanda, Burundi and Zanzibar for the trophy.

Meanwhile, ten more players have been called up to the Emerging Stars squad. 

Among the senior players called up are Kakamega Homeboyz forward David Odhiambo, who was most recently named the BetKing Premier League player of the month of May. Harambee Stars influential forward Abdalla Hassan, and defenders Harun Mwale and Bernard Ochieng have also been called up.

AFC Leopards duo of Lewis Bandi and Austine Ochieng, Wazito’s Musa Masika, Gor Mahia’s Frank Odhiambo and Alpha Onyango and Bandari’s Keegan Ndemi complete the list of junior players called up.

The team leaves Bahir Dar, Ethiopia on June 30, for the regional showpiece set to be played between July 3, and July 18, 2021.
