A deafening defeat to Mathare United last time out technically threw AFC Leopards out of contention for next season’s CAF Champions League and on Saturday afternoon they face a re-energized Wazito FC in an Betking Premier League match at the Utalii Grounds.

Winless in three, Ingwe will be hoping to submerge the Yellow Submarine who have been in fine form in the recent past. Francis Kimanzi’s Wazito held reigning league champions Gor Mahia to a barren draw and beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 in the previous week to keep their top 8 finish alive.

Even though they are out of contention for a place in the Champions League, Ingwe are still chasing their first league title since 1998 have had a rough three weeks in the league losing twice and drawing once.

They are currently on 37 points, seven points behind league leaders Tusker FC. On Thursday, coach Patrick Aussems stripped off Captaincy from Robinson Kamura, giving the armband to Isaac Kipyegon who has also been deployed to the central defence.

The Kenyan giants will be hoping to have Clyde Senaji back on fold after missing the Mathare United fixture due to personal reasons.

Wazito on the other hand squeezed a barren draw against Gor Mahia, a result that may have lifted their confidence ahead of the Utalii showdown.

In the reverse fixture, Wazito edged out Ingwe 1-0 with former Ingwe player Kevin Kimani beating Benjamin Ochan from close range to seal the three vital points for Wazito.

In another match, Gor Mahia will be looking to return to winning ways after their seven match winning run was halted by the draw with Wazito.

K’Ogalo face Western Stima, a side struggling to survive the chop.Juma Abdallah’s side are currently 16th on the log and their 2-1 loss to Tusker last time may have dented their hopes of staying afloat. Gor Mahia on the other hand will be hoping to pick maximum points from this fixture and then pray for Tusker and KCB to drop points in their next fixtures.

Gor can reduce the gap between them and leaders Tusker to three points with a win.

Elsewhere, Mathare United will host Stanley Okumbi’s Posta Rangers hoping for a second win in a row.
