Portuguese Manuel Vaz Pinto has quit as Gor Mahia FC head coach with immediate effect.

Pinto jetted out of the country on Friday and is set to join Portugal Division Two side, CD Nacional.

The latest development sees former captain Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ assume caretater duties for the second time this season at the record 19-time Kenya champions.

Pinto leaves Gor Mahia in the fourth position with 39 points, eleven behind leaders Tusker FC with nine matches to go.

Pinto took over as Gor coach in January 2021, replacing Brazilian Roberto Oliveira who was ousted after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) barred him from overseeing K’Ogalo’s continental assignments due to lack of qualifications for the job.

Pinto’s last assignment ended in a 2-1 defeat to Tusker on Thursday.

Sammy Omolo who guided the team in the unsuccessful CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup assignments will take over the team and his first assignment will be a home match against  Nairobi City Stars on 17th June.
