A tight showdown was held today in a game that proved to be extremely crucial for the Kenya Lioness. The team fought hard but lost 107-106 to Egypt.

The game was lost in the last seconds when Mercy Wanyama failed to score after a clear cut chance that left the Spanish based basketballer unmarked in the low post court side.

The Kenyan Squad had a steady lead in the first and second quarter with the scores being in their favor; Q1 31-11 and Q2 35-30. Possession went south in the third and fourth quarters deeming it a hard chase for the Lioness who couldn't quite sustain their slight lead. Egypt stole the game in the dying seconds from a rather fatigued Kenyan side. The 3rd and 4th quarter scores read 18-31 and 22-35 respectively in favour of the Egyptians.

The Lioness had to win this game in order to secure a big opportunity of qualifying to the AfroBasket games slated for September 17th to 26th in Yaounde Cameroon. Having bounced back from a disappointing opener defeat to Rwanda to beat South Sudan 66-48, the squad will yet again dust themselves up and live to fight another day.
