Emily Muteti

Kenya's Swimming duo, Emily Muteti and Danilo Rosafio are bound to begin their journey to the summer games once they jet off for Japan tomorrow 21st July. Danilo, who is based in the United Kingdom under a swimming scholarship, will fly off to Tokyo from Loughborough University as confirmed by his coach. Coach Fakry Mansoor also said Muteti will follow suit and team up with Rosafio.

Muteti, who is based in the United States at the Grand Canyon University, has been training under coach Steve Schaffer. Apparently, the two swimmers will be making their Olympic debuts and have deservedly earned the right to represent the country especially after the International Swimming Federation (FINA) confirmed their selection was based on their top-ranking points. Rosafio earned the needed points after he got the top 730 FINA points in 100m freestyle at the FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He also represented Kenya at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea where he competed in men’s 50m and 100m freestyle events.

With regards to their preparations, the two swimmers also had a chance of going to France and Portugal respectively for the Olympic trials. Muteti finished 4th at the national trials before yet again claiming an impressive performance at the YSWF 2021 Long course summer opener Championships in the US. The 23 year old also holds the top FINA points (698) in the 50m freestyle. Rosafio on the other hand was able to show his incredible prowess by winning a bronze medal in Portugal, outclassing some of Europe's best swimmers.
