
Kenyan duo of Brackcides Agala and Gaudencia Makokha went down fighting when they lost against the Brazilians 2-0. The Brazilian pair of Ana Patricia and Rebecca Silva proved to be tough opponents for the Kenyans when they managed to win all two sets; S1 21-15, S2 21-9 making the total stand at 42-24.
Playing in extreme weather conditions where air and sand temperatures averages 32 degrees Celsius, Kenya held their own for a 5-5 tie in the first set before the experienced Brazilians peeled away 11-6, went further ahead 17-11 and sealed the set at 21-15.
The second set saw the Kenyan duo chase hard after the Brazilians in a one point match duel but a nine-point rally from the South Americans saw them lead 15-5 and easily claimed the win at 21-9. Kenya return to the Shiokaze Park on Thursday to face another Pool 'D' favourite USA. USA beat Latvia 2-1 (21-13,16-21,15-11) in another Pool 'D' match earlier at the same venue.
