KCB close in on League leaders, Tusker as Gor Mahia aims at breaking losing streak

KCB football

KCB completely dominated Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday, July 25th to close the gap between them and the league leaders, Tusker FC. The Bankers put on an impressive performance that saw them score 3 unanswered goals away at Thika Stadium. The win takes KCB’s tally to 54 points, a point behind league leaders Tusker with six matches remaining before the season ends.

The bankers were clinical and precise in the match after scoring in the opening five minutes of the first and second half where Samwel Mwangi and Baraka Badi hit the target before Michael Oduor sealed the win late in the match. For Sharks, their 5 match unbeaten run came to a halt as well as Erick Kapaito's scoring form. Despite that, Kapaito still leads the top scoring charts with 22 goals, six goals shy of Charles Odero’s (Scarlet FC) feat (28 goals) achieved in the 1983 season.

Sharks first real chance came at the half hour mark when Kapaito set up Shaphan Oyugi whose shot was thwarted by KCB captain Joseph Ochuka in goal. KCB went on to control much of the game and secure their 3 goal win.

Today being match day 28 in the Betking Premier League, Gor Mahia will be looking to end their 6-game winless streak against Ulinzi Stars at exactly 3:15p.m away at A.S.K Grounds, Nakuru. K'Ogalo are currently 8th in the table with their last league win coming more than a month ago when they grabbed a 1-0 win over Sofapaka at home. Since then, they have won only once, and they did so after 90 minutes in the post-match penalties against AFC Leopards in the FKF Cup. For Gor Mahia, a loss would even see them go into round 29 at position 9 if Nairobi City Stars beat Bidco United.

Ulinzi Stars suffered a tragic 2-1 loss in the hands of KCB at Thika Stadium in their last outing and will be hoping to rectify that result at home. Match Officials for the Gor Mahia vs Ulinzi Stars showdown include; Raymond Onyango, Tony Kidiya and Bonface Gikonyo.
