AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia will renew their rivalry for the third time this season when they clash in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday July 30.

Both clubs are in a bad run in form, Gor Mahia are winless in seven while AFC Leopards have won only one match in their last five, losing three and drawing one.

Financial strains are also an achilles to both teams with both struggling to pay their players, stretching to up to four months.

Leopards have not defeated Gor in five seasons with their last victory coming in March 2016 when Lamine Diallo came off the bench to score the only goal at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in the 57th minute of the game.

On July 4, 2021, the two sides met in the Betway FKF Cup at Nyayo stadium with Gor Mahia winning 4-2 on post-match penalties after the match ended in a barren draw.

Winger Boniface Mukhekhe is confident that Leopards can end the  five year-jinx by beating the 19-time champions and claim the bragging rights.

“This match as per me is not a hard one even if we got a draw and a loss from them in our last two meetings. We have the stamina that is needed to face them and there is nothing to fear about,” Mukhekhe told Citizen Sports.
