Experienced 800 meters runner Ferguson Rotich will be aiming to improve on his 5th place finish posted in Rio de Janeiro when the athletics finally take center stage from Friday.
Rotich says the team will miss World record holder David Rudisha who has not raced for over two years due to a nagging knee injury.
"We will miss Rudisha (David) because he has been very influential to the squad but we want to ensure that we maintain the legacy, "
The weatherman had predicted typhoons in Tokyo but that did not happen, bringing joy to the Kenyan camp who are training at the Tokyo Olympic stadium.
"The weather is fine and we are looking forward to the start, we know we have to fight, " Rotich said.
With only a bronze medal on the global scene, the 31-year-old knows that there is pressure to perform being the most experienced member of the 800m team that also has Emmanuel Korir and Michael Saruni.
Team manager Kennedy Tanui says the team will make good use of the training facilities to get the best put of the sprinters and other athletes.
"We are happy the typhoon did not occur, meaning that we will have the best preparation before Friday,"
"We are not moving away from the stadium meaning that we will have time to prepare well," Tanui said.
