The much awaited Mashemeji derby that was to be played at the Thika sub county stadium on saturday afternoon will not be played after both AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia decided not to travel to the match venue.
Controversies over monies owed to the clubs dominated the headlines on Friday with club chairmen Ambrose Rachier(Gor Mahia) and Dan Shikanda(AFC Leopards) demanding to be paid the prize money for the Betway FKF Cup which they played in the finals on July 4, 2021 at the Nyayo stadium.
Gor Mahia are demanding Ksh 2 million while AFC Leopards Ksh 1 million from the federation.
Both clubs did not attend the pre-match meeting at the Thika Stadium Saturday morning, according to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Communications Manager Ken Okaka.
“All the other parties are on the ground ready for the match. The broadcast teams, both for TV and radio are already at the Thika Stadium,” Okaka added.
The two teams were meanwhile spotted at the Camp Toyoyo, playing a friendly match that kicked off at noon.
