Elaine Thompson-Herah made sprint history when she became the first woman to retain both the 100m and 200m Olympic titles.

The Jamaican clocked 21.53 seconds to win the 200m final to finish ahead of Namibia's Christine Mboma who took silver in 21.81sec and USA's Gabby Thomas took bronze in 21.87sec.

Thompson-Herah got off to a blistering start just as she did in the 100m thereby taking good command off the bend to stay clear of her opponents.

The 29-year-old Thompson-Herah's time was the second-fastest in history after Florence Griffith Joyner's world record of 21.34sec set at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Thompson-Herah, the 100m and 200m champion at Rio 2016 was just 0.19secs outside the world record set by Joyner in Seoul.
