Is Aguero Leaving City?

Everytime he stepped out of the dugout, everyone waited to watch him score with his magic touch and clinical finish. Kun Aguero did so on his debut in 2011, turning home a Micah Richard’s low cross as City romped to a 6-1 win over rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

He then went on to score eight goals that campaign. Since then Aguero has been Manchester City’s top marksman. Things have however taken a sharp twist for the 32 year-old Argentine and it seems that he might as well be on his way out of the Etihad.

The Manchester Derby is the stage he loved the most, scoring in almost every appearance. The last six have been quite different finding the net on only two occasions.

Kun, as he is commonly known, is out of contract with the Citizens and this weekend’s derby might be his last as things stand.

But wait, Aguero hasn’t scored a premier league goal for more than a year despite being fully fit. It is with this kind of form that many will keep guessing if he will be given a nod to start or even be on the bench against United.

Things haven’t been easy for the former Atletico Madrid man. A knee injury suffered against Burnley in June 2020 has really frustrated him and he hasn’t just been himself ever since. He did get back into action but was immediately put into isolation due to close contact with someone who had tested positive for Coronavirus and then he tested positive.

Lack of game time

From then, he has started only three games and made seven substitute appearances.

He has not completed a full game since last season's encounter with the Hammers, on 19 February, which was the last time supporters were present to watch City play at home.

The most recent of the two goals Aguero has scored this season came against Marseille on 9 December. His last league goal came at Sheffield United on 21 January 2020.

With the current situation, it is hard to tell when he will get a nod and probably get on the score sheet again at City. At the moment, his service remains at 254 goals for the incoming Premier League champions.
