
NBA Star Carmelo Anthony has agreed to a 1-year Deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony's arrival means that four future Hall of Fame stars will play in the same team, though it remains to be seen if the 37-year-old will be able to get an NBA ring at last. Carmelo Joins long time friend, LeBron James. Both of the players were Number 1. and 3. picks from 2003 and their friendship will see them playing alongside each other for the first time.
Initially, Anthony announced the signing on his own social media with a teasing video showing his new team, after spells at the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers.
The forward was reportedly considering a reunion with the Knicks, but the Lakers always made more sense at this stage of his career. After being cut by the Rockets in 2018 and a short hiatus from the NBA, Anthony was productive the last two seasons with the Blazers.
Carmelo averaged 13.4 points and made 40.9% of his 3-pointers coming off the bench for Portland last season. The Lakers, who won the NBA title in 2020 but were eliminated in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs by Phoenix this past season, could have eight players age 32 or older on their opening night roster. Anthony will be the oldest. James, Marc Gasol and Trevor Ariza are all 36.
