National Women’s rugby 15s team, the Kenya Lionesses, will face South Africa’s Springboks women on Thursday, August 12, at 4:00 PM in the first of two tests at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sports.

This is part of their preparation for their Rugby World Cup Qualifier clash against Columbia on 25th August in Nairobi.

Lionesses head coach, Felix Oloo, stated that they arrived safely in Cape Town on Tuesday, August 10 and are now ready for today's and next week’s encounter as they seek to use the two friendlies to do final touches before facing Colombia.

“The whole playing unit is okay, and I have no injury concerns as of now. The team is gelling up well as we ultimately prepare for the Colombia game,” stated Oloo

The lineup includes 1. Mercy Migongo, 2. Staycy Atieno (Vice-Captain), 3. Rose Otieno, 4. Peruse Muyuka, 5. Naomi Amuguni, 6. Mitchelle Akinyi, 7. Diana Kemunto, 8. Laurine Akoth, 9. Faith Marindany, 10. Joy Kendagor (Captain), 11. Priscah Nyerere, 12. Winnie Owino, 13.

Sophia Ayieta, 14. Linet Moraa, 15. Sinaida Nyachio.

The team’s Captain Joy Kendagor is hopeful that playing South Africa in the scheduled friendlies will offer them a good platform to gauge themselves and see where they are and what they need to work on before taking on Colombia’s women’s rugby 15s team the Las Tucanes.

“Women Boks are currently the best women’s 15s rugby team in Africa, and we need to play the best to improve ourselves. There is, therefore, no better way to prepare for the Colombia game than playing South Africa so that we know exactly what we need to do to produce results,” stated Kendagor speaking to Kenya Rugby Union.

On the bench, the team will have, 16. Knight Otuoma, 17. Julliet Nyambura, 18. Evelyne Kalemera, 19. Bernadette Olesia, 20. Leah Wambui, 21. Judith Auma, 22. Anne Njeri, 23. Anne Goreti
