National Super League side Migori Youth football club has expressed their dissatisfaction with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) League and competition office over modified fixtures.
In a press statement released on Friday August 13, the club says it is overwhelmed by the fixture congestion and timings.
According to the club’s chairman Aziz Osman, the fixtures were done without prior consultations with the affected clubs, and no consideration was taken into the general welfare of the players.
The majority of the fixtures had been postponed due to the surge of Covid-19 cases, and as part of the containment measures by the MOH, sporting activities within the region were banned.
Migori Youth had engaged FKF in a letter dated August 9, 2021, on the possibility of being flexible on the Match No.34 against Fortune Sacco to be postponed to a later date, but their plea had not been considered nor a satisfying explanation given.
Migori Youth is set to play four games within a span of 10 days.
Among them being against Fortune Sacco on 14th August and Silibwet on the 17th of August.
“We engage the Federation on 9th August, 2021 on the possibility of being flexible on the Match No. 34, a fixture against Fortune Sacco be postponed to a later date but our plea to have the same postponed to a later date has not been considered neither satisfying explanation given; since the Club will play 4 games within a span of 10 days (7th Vihiga Bullets (Home), 11th Kisumu All Stars (Home), 14th Fortune Sacco (Away) and on 17th Silibwet (Away). The fixtures against Fortune Sacco and Silibwet are all away matches in a span of 72 hours. The venue of the match against Fortune Sacco is 20 Hours drive from Migori and be able to travel back to Migori before travelling again to Silibwet at Bomet which is also close to 8 hours drive to Bomet,”the statement read.
This, according to Aziz, will greatly weigh down on their players and contribute to unfairness.
Migori Youth are currently 17th in the 20-team log with 34 points after 29 matches.
