Muhammad Ali's Grandson Marks His Pro Boxing Debut

Nico Ali Walsh

The saying 'the apple never falls far from its tree' is pretty much true since Muhammad Ali's Grandson, Nico Ali Walsh marked his pro debut with a TKO win. Nico celebrated the win against Jordan Weeks after landing a rain of heavy strikes that forced the referee to call It off. The middleweight bout happened in Catoosa, Oklahoma and eventually came to a close after only 70 seconds of dominant action from the 21 year old.

Ali Walsh, wearing trunks his grandfather gave him, landed a right to the chin that forced Weeks to touch the canvas for a knockdown. He followed with a barrage of hard shots that prompted the referee to stop the fight. The crowd, which chanted “Ali! Ali!” during the action, went wild when at the conclusion. Weeks (4-2, 2 KOs) is a raw fighter, which means the victory for Ali Walsh doesn’t mean much. However, it’s a first step.

Obviously, my grandfather, I’m thinking about him so much. I miss him. It’s just an emotional journey, and thank you to Jordan Weeks and his people. Tough, tough kid. I think me and him made a little bit of history tonight.”

It's now quite evident that boxing runs in the family since Nico is the second after his aunt, Leila Ali to take up boxing. Will we see a new generation of probably the greatest boxer to fit in Ali's shoes… Well only time will tell for the 21 year old protégé.
