The young tennis sensation is seeking to defend her title in the Under 18 category.

Other Kenyans who were at the Championship were Cynthia Wanjala and Alicia Owegi but were eliminated in the first round on Monday, March 28.

Okutoyi, who is the holder of the championship, won in 2021 after defeating Moroccan Aya El Aouni in the finals that were staged at Sousse. She became the first-ever Kenyan African Junior Championship winner.

The Kenyan tennis player has had a busy calendar from the Women's Futures Tour and her recent visits to Egypt and Morocco coming in as she prepared for the Championship.

Before she went into the tournament, Okutoyi had confidence in herself, citing good preparations.

"I have had good preparations and I have acclimated to the conditions in North Africa. I cannot wait for the tournament to get started to make the country proud,” Okutoyi earlier noted.

Okutoyi noted that she will be using the African Junior Championship as preparation for the Junior French Open tournament in June 2022.
