Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has come out to address the state of football in the country for the first time since FIFA approved Kenya's indefinite suspension on March 31.
Amina Mohamed clarified that before engaging FIFA in any talks the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Caretaker committee will continue to execute its mandate of cleaning Kenyan football.
The Cabinet Secretary noted that they are in the process of ensuring that FKF complies with the Sports Act, Kenyan constitution and observes high standards before she initiates dialogue with the world football governing body to convince them to lift Kenya’s ban.

“The same way we have completed this process before the International Cricket Council (ICC) is the same way we want to do with football. We want to finish internally and complete this process before engaging with FIFA,” Amina noted.
She pointed out that the Football Kenya Federation is experiencing accountability issues which need to be fixed.
CS Amina also noted that many of the sports federations in the country lack proper governance structures.
“Three quarters of the federations in this country need to be fixed. Many of them don’t have governance structures and operate as briefcase parties then run to the government for monetary assistance,”
Kenya was suspended indefinitely by FIFA on February 24, for interfering with football affairs, with the CS noting that there were talks to end the ban that spells doom for Kenya.
The World Football governing body gave Kenya conditions to be reinstated noting that the government needs to respect the independence of the federation in managing football affairs in the country.
