Omanyala Beaten Again in Germany

Ferdinand Omanyala lost his second consecutive race on September 4, at the 2022 ISTAF Berlin Continental Tour.

The Commonwealth champion was beaten by 200m world champion Noah Lyles. Lyles crossed the finishing line in 9.95 seconds ahead of Omanyala who clocked 10.11 seconds. 

Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu registered a time of 10.16 seconds to settle for third.

This was the second time in less than two weeks that the African record holder was beaten.

Prior to yesterday’s race, Omanyala had also registered a second-place finish at the 2022 Leichtathletick World Continental Tour staged in Lucerne, Switzerland. He was narrowly beaten by American athlete Marvin Bracy.

Omanyala, who is a household name currently in Kenya, will end his season at the Memorial Borisa Hanžekovića Continental Tour, a gold label event  slated for Zagreb, Croatia between September 9 and September 11.

Besides Omanyala, several other Kenyans participated at the ISTAF Berlin Continental Tour. In the 1,500m men’s category, Reynold Cheruiyot emerged victorious in 3:35.04.

In another race, world championship silver medalist Beatrice Chebet continued with her fine form when she outpaced other competitors to bag the 5,000m title.

The 22-year-old crossed the finishing line in 14:44.25 ahead of American representative Elly Henes who clocked 14:52.87.

Selah Busienei settled for a third-place finish in 15:10.14 with her compatriot  Eva Cherono settling for 15:27.87.
