
Kenya's Jacob Krop broke his personal best to win the men's 5000m in 12:45.71, setting a new world lead time.
Krop improved his personal best with a second, elevating him to sixth on the world all-time list.
In the final two laps, Krop was in the lead with USA’s Grant Fisher being the only athlete close to him. However, the Kenyan increased his pace in the home stretch and cruised into victory.

The time of 12:45.71, in the 5,00m race pushed Krop up the ladder, becoming the second-fastest Kenyan in history behind Daniel Komen who clocked 12:39:74.
USA’s Grant Fisher finished with a time of 12:46.96, breaking the North American record and moving to 12th on the world all-time list.
Krop's compatriot Nicholas Kipkorir finished third in 12:50.97 followed by South Sudanese Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu who set his country's record with a time of 12:52.15.
Krop who is the reigning African junior champion in the 5,000m banged a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
The 21-year-old finished second in Oregon behind the Olympic 1500m champion Jacob Ingebrigtsen.
Krop’s journey to fame, however, was not devoid of challenges as he comes from a humble background.
The 21-year-old was raised in Lelan, Pokot South Sub County by a single mother in a family of four.
