Ferdinand Omanyala ended his 2022 Athletics season on a low by registering a third-place finish at the Memorial Borisa Hanzekovica, a Continental Gold Tour label race staged in Zagreb, Croatia.

The 26-year-old clocked 10.19 seconds to finish behind the race winner Marvin Bracy and Jeremiah Azu.

Bracy, the 2022 World Athletics Championships silver medalist crossed the finishing line in 9.97 seconds while Azu clocked 10.14 seconds.

This is the third time that Bracy has beaten Omanyala in less than three months. At the World Athletics Championships held in Oregon, United States, Omanyala was bundled out in the semi-final while Bracy went on to register a podium place finish in the final.

At the Spitzen Leichtathletik tournament held on August 30, in Lucerne, Switzerland, the American sprinter also outclassed Omanyala.

Bracy clocked 10.17 seconds to win the race ahead of Omanyala who clocked 10.18 seconds.

Some of the take-aways for Omanyala this season is breaking the African record previously held by South African international Akini Simbine.

Omanyala produced one of the greatest performances of his career when he crossed the finishing line at the African Athletics Championships in an impressive time of 9.77 seconds to smash the record of 9.84 set by Simbine in 2021.

Although Omanyala’s preparations for the World Athletics Championships were affected by the visa saga, he managed to reach the semi-final despite arriving in Eugene at the eleventh hour.

He left the heartbreak behind and went on to win his first Commonwealth title in Birmingham, United Kingdom, clocking 10.02 seconds to again defeat Simbine who settled for second in 10.13 seconds.
