Newly crowned national school games football champions Ebwali Secondary School from the Western region are requesting financial help ahead of the East African Schools Games slated for Wednesday, September 14 to September 24, 2022, in Arusha Tanzania.

Speaking to reporters ahead of their trip to Arusha, Ebwali head coach Francis Muhambe requested well-wishers to help the team cover logistical expenses.

“The boys have done a good job and we are set to travel to Arusha. The only challenge that we are facing now is a financial one. For example, we are supposed to get travel documents which cost a lot of money.

“It is a big challenge for us. I would like to request those who are willing to come forward and help our boys to travel to Tanzania,” stated Muhambe.

Muhambe further added that the logistical challenges might force him to leave his technical bench behind.

“The other thing that is giving me a headache is the inability to travel with my technical staff to Arusha. My technical bench has five people, but the ministry only takes care of the coach and 20 players.

“So, I would like to ask the residents of Vihiga and the entire Western region, if they really love Ebwali, to help me travel with my technical bench,” pleaded Muhambe.

Ebwali was grouped in pool B alongside St. Mary’s Kitende and Buddo Secondary schools from Uganda. Tanzanian sides Katoro and Trust St. Patricks are also in the same group.

The other Kenyan representative's Highway Secondary School from Nairobi was paired alongside Kiwira Coal Mines (Tanzania), St. Andrews Kaggwa (Uganda), Kibuli (Uganda) and ES Gasiza (Rwanda).

Both Ebwali and Highway Secondary Schools made it to the national school games showpiece after their regional opponents Bukembe and Waylight were banned for fielding ineligible players.
