The athletic Integrity Unit (AIU)  has banned two Kenyan athletes from competitive athletics competitions after they tested positive for prohibited substances.

Felix Kipchumba Korir and Emmanuel Saina were banned for three years after their samples tested positive for the presence of Norandrosterone.

“The AIU has banned Kenya’s Felix Kipchumba Korir and Emmanuel Saina for 3 years each from 9 September 2022, for using Norandrosterone,” the statement from AIU read.

According to AIU the Saina did not have a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) that had been granted for the Norandrosterone found in the sample.

He was notified of the Adverse Analytical Findings on September 9, 2022, and was made aware of an Immediate Provisional Suspension.

The 30-year-old athlete in response, sent an Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violation and Acceptance of Consequences Form on September 17, 2022.

Saina’s ban was reduced by a year because of his early admission. However, his results since August 17, 2022, including any awards or points were disqualified.

Marathon champion Felix Kipchumba Korir whose samples were taken on August 17, was informed of the findings on September 9, 2022.

Korir later requested an extension to reply to the Notice of Allegation and was given a deadline day of September 22 where he later accepted the consequences.

His results from August 17, 2022, were also disqualified and he was ordered to forfeit any titles, awards, medals, points prizes and appearance money.

The two join a list of some of the latest Kenyan athletes who have been banned as Kenya is among seven other Category A nations deemed by the AIU to have the highest doping risk.
