Kenya Lionesses Learn Their Opponents Ahead of Continental Tournament

The Kenyan national women’s rugby 15s team will play arch-rivals Lady Cranes from Uganda and Zambia in the 2022 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup slated to begin on Friday, October 14, 2022.

The three teams have been placed in pool B according to the groups released by Rugby Afrique on Monday.

Senegal, Tunisia and Madagascar will battle it out in Pool C while the West African duo of Cameroon and Ivory Coast have been grouped alongside Burkina Faso in Pool C.

According to the African rugby governing body, Senegal and Tunisia are set to curtain raise the tournament on October 14.

The Kenyan ladies will start their campaign against Zambia on October 29 before playing Uganda Cranes on November 2.

The match between Burkina Faso and Cameroon which has been scheduled to take place on November 12 will conclude the group stages. 

South Africa won the reigning edition staged in 2019 and in the process qualified for the 2021 Rugby World Cup. 

Kenya Lionesses registered a second-place finish ahead of Madagascar in the tournament which was held in Brakpan, South Africa.  

In 2020, the tournament was not held because of the pandemic which brought to a standstill nearly all sporting activities around the globe.

Only test matches were played in the 2021 edition before the showpiece was canceled on health grounds.

In the test matches, Kenya were walloped by Madagascar 27-15 in a match which was staged at the Nyayo National Stadium, Kasarani.
