Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala, on Monday, October 31, 2022, announced his plans for the upcoming 2023 athletics season.

According to the 26-year-old sprinter, he will have to sacrifice some of the events in the upcoming congested season to focus on the world championship.

“I want to do something different this time around to hit the peak at the right time, which should be at the world event in Budapest.

"I will give the World Indoors tour a miss this time around. It's my wish to open my Diamond League in Doha on May 5," he was quoted by Nation.

In the just concluded season, Omanyala did not participate in most of the Diamond League series, which made him miss out on the finals, which was staged in Zurich, Switzerland.

However, despite missing out on the finals, Omanyala had a season to remember. He won several titles, including his maiden Commonwealth Games gold medal.

The reigning African 100m record holder also praised Faith Kipyegon, describing her as a welcoming woman.

“Faith and I talked about investments and the state of athletics in general in the country.

“I have always admired Chepngetich’s exploits on track and her jovial nature. She is so warm and welcoming. She told me what it took her to win both the world and Olympic titles," he stated.

Kipyegon had an excellent 2022 outing, winning almost all the races that she took part in, including her first World Championship title.

The brilliant results posted by the mother of one made her be nominated for the World Athletics female athlete of the year award.
