Kenya Lionesses to Battle Continental Rivals in Dubai 7s

The Kenya national women’s rugby team have been grouped in a tough pool ahead of the 2022 Dubai 7s tournament.

Kenya Lionesses were placed in Pool A alongside continental rivals South Africa and Tunisia. A strong French side is also in the same group.

The event, last held in 2019, is scheduled to take place in the first week of December.

“The Kenya national women’s sevens team, Lionesses, have been drawn in Pool A at the Dubai Sevens International Invitational Women’s Category.

“They will face off with continental rivals Tunisia as well South Africa Development and France Development Women who defeated them in the final of the same competition the last time it was held in 2019,” read a statement from the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU). 

Kenya will open its campaign on Thursday, December 1, against arch-rivals Tunisia before facing South Africa Development.

The Lionesses will play their final group match against France Development, who overpowered them in 2019 final.

The match is slated for Friday, December 2, at 2 pm East African Time.
