Mathere finished have escaped relegation after a dramatic day of action that saw them pip Ulinzi Stars 1-0 with Western Stima dropping to the National Super League following a similar 1-0 loss at home to Wazito FC.

John 'Mavado 'Mwangi netted the all important goal in the 9th minute of the game as the 2008 champions defended their hearts out against the 2010 league winners.

Mwangi  dispossessed Ulinzi midfielder John Kago just outside the area and beating two other Ulinzi players before smashing the ball home from close range.

Ulinzi had a chance to level the scores in the 27th minute, but Mark Bikokwa failed to direct his header from a John Njuguna delivery. Another chance went begging in the 39th minute when Masita Masuta missed an empty goal shooting over the bar. Making the first half ending in Mathare’s favour.

In the 63rd minute, Mathare United coach Frank Ouna made changes by swapping Danson Kago for James Kinyanjui in a bid of strengthening the attacking options.

They would however be reduced to ten men when Alphonse Ndonye saw red in the 64th minute.

Chris Odour was also booked  in the 86th minute as they fought tooth and nail to remain afloat.

In Kisumu, Western Stima lost 1-0 to Wazito FC, making them bow out of top flight football.
