
Today Kenya marked 100 days to the Olympics competition and the campaign was led by sports cabinet secretary Amb. Amina Mohammed who marked the occasion as she assured the athletes of the maximum government support in their quest for the summer games in Tokyo.
It was very important for us to have this because it shows our commitment to the athletes and it also refocuses everyone’s mind to the Olympics. We have had challenges for the past one year with COVID and minds are all over the place. We left it was important to celebrate this for the athletes to see that the country is with them and we appreciate what they do for us,” CS Amina stated.
It has been a turbulent year for the athletes globally as the pandemic has served a big blow to the athletes across the world. The sporting community has largely been affected forcing athletes to stop training as a team and train from home, this has therefore hindered the team spirit from many teams.
The global challenge has however hit differently for athletes in Kenya as sporting activities resumed all over the world Kenyan athletes were forced to halt their activities as the government suspended activities were suspended with no exact return date.This suspension came a few months before the olympic games where the athletes were in high intensity preparations for their olympics campaigns.
The Ministry of Sports Culture and Heritage has partnered with the National Olympics Committee of Kenya to ensure that athletes who have qualified for Tokyo continue training. Around 88 athletes will be in bubble-training at the Kasarani Stadium in preparation for the games.They now have organized a vaccination programme that will see all Olympians get vaccinated before the Summer games begin in July.
The Cabinet Secretary assured all athletes that will be representing the nation at the olympics in July that they will receive full government support in their preparations towards the game and while participating at the game.
