Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and General Service Unit(GSU) remain hopeful of winning ahead of their African Club Championship in Tunisia as reigning champions and Egyptian giants Al Ahly are set to miss out in this year's continental competition.
Kenyan side GSU who won the title back in 2018 is the only team to have halted the Egypt side from winning their fifth title in a row while in the competition.
The Gideon Tarus coached side will be banking on the services of international setter Brian Melly, centre player Simon Kipkorir and Cornelius Kiplagat who were part of the Kenya team during the 2019 Zone Five All Africa Games qualifiers. Naftali Chumba is also a key player for the side.
The two kenyan sides stand a huge chance of winning the title as their biggest threat in the competition won't participate in Tunisia. With both teams posting an outstanding performance in the previous editions of the continental competition they still remain hopeful to bring the title back home.
Intense preparations ahead of the games have been taking place despite the suspension of sporting activities by the government within the country. On arrival in Tunis, the team will hold a light training session to shake off the jet lag. The team will train again on Saturday ahead of the kick off on Sunday.
The dockers qualified for the tournament after finishing runners up in the 2019 season, their best finish so far in the national league and are expected to set the pace at the tournament.
The event will mark the 40th edition of the championship with clubs from across Africa expected to attend the ten- day tournament with competing teams strengthening training in preparation for the tournament.
