Former Sofapaka FC midfielder Wisdom Naya is calling upon well wishers to help him travel to India for special treatment following his chemotherapy sessions to treat Soft tissue Sarcoma.
The former St. Anthony Boys midfielder is hoping well-wishers will help him raise KSh 2.5 million to enable him to travel for medication.
Naya got injured in January of 2020 and is now facing an uncertain future after what was initially thought to be a normal injury turned cancerous. The gifted midfielder had a promising football career but now stares at a future on the sidelines and without a club after being dropped by Sofapaka. The family which resides in Tuwan in Kitale says Wisdom developed complications from what they suspected was a normal knock injury in 2020. They later decided to seek medication which revealed that it was not a normal injury.
His father Edward Onyango says his son had a promising future following his successful signing with Sofapaka that won the 2008/2009 Kenya Premier League title. "As a parent, I had seen him exploiting his talent very well that's why I set him free to pursue his talent. I knew he would help us a lot through his talent," said Onyango.
His sentiments were echoed by Naya's mother Dinna Cherop who said that her son's medical expenses were draining to the family was hopeful well-wishers would chip in and help lighten their burden. "We have gone for a number of chemotherapy sessions before further surgery is done. Doctors at Mediheal Hospital have recommended for amputation among top options though we haven't reached the decision," said Cherop.
According to renowned journalist Kevin Teya, Naya needs Kshs. 55,000 for every chemo session he undergoes. To help Naya offset his medical bills, reach him through 0714 325245. The 17 year old suffered a thigh muscle injury back in November last year just after government through the ministry of sports gave a greenlight for the resumption of sporting activities.
In a past interview, he shared that he was supposed to face the knife to repair his torn ligaments. However, with the latest developments, it so looks like the medics opted for Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses drugs to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing.
Soft tissue sarcoma forms in soft tissues of the body, including muscle, tendons, fat, blood vessels, lymph vessels, nerves, and tissue around joints. This is cancer that begins in the muscle, fat, fibrous tissue, blood vessels, or other supporting tissue of the body. The tumors can be found anywhere in the body but often form in the arms, legs, chest, or abdomen. Signs of soft tissue sarcoma include a lump or swelling in soft tissue.
Treatment of adult soft tissue sarcoma may include the following:
- Surgery (wide local excision) followed by radiation therapy.
- Surgery (amputation; rarely done).
- Targeted therapy with a tyrosine kinase inhibitor.
- Chemotherapy.
Having showed us what he is capable of during the 2018 Copa Coca-Cola African Championship final between Kenya and Nigeria, there is no doubt that Naya is immensely talented and will certainly get back to his best once he is treated. The fact that then Sofapaka head coach John Baraza made a move for him clearly show that he is destined for greatness.
Nayah who helped St. Anthony clinch Kenya secondary schools sports association KSSSA in 2018 and junior Africa cup of nations in the same year impressed a number of football clubs before signing for Sofapaka in 2019, a contract that is set to expire in January 2022.
During another past, Naya revealed that he dreams of one day turning out for Paris Saint Germain and studying business management. He looked up to then Sofapaka captain Elli Asieche. Help him achieve by dream by donating towards his treatment. Reach him on 0714 325245.
