CAF has sent out a circular regarding the way forward of spectators wishing to attend the Fifa World Cup qualifiers and other CAF tournaments.
In a circular dated October 31 the African football body has given their way forward regarding the introduction of spectators back to the stadiums.
This came following the experience in the recent CAF interclub and FIFA World Cup African qualifiers competitions related to spectators' access to stadiums.
CAF notified its members that for them to admit spectators in stadiums, then the home countries should comply with a set of criteria's set.
“Be able to accommodate spectators in a stadium and meet all the requirements of FIFA/CAF and already be formally approved by CAF.”
‘Have presented to CAF a letter from the local health authorities of the venue planned for the match confirming that the presence of supporters is authorized and up to what number.”
“Send to CAF evidence that all necessary measures to ensure compliance with the FIFA/CAF pandemic match protocol have been taken.”
“Have appointed a national safety and security officer (NSSO) for the organization of the match.” the letter by CAF read.
CAF highlighted that for the supporting documents to verify compliance with the set conditions should be communicated to them at the following addresses exclusively: spectators@cafonline.com at least 24 hours before the match in question.
On the other hand, CAF noted that if any National Association fails to provide all supporting documents within 24 hours it will lead to prohibition of spectators in that match.
“In the event of non-compliance with this prohibition the Member Association will be liable to disciplinary sanctions by CAF,” the letter further read.
However, this rule does not favour countries such as Kenya as CAF recently issued a ban on the two main stadiums in the country.
