Vihiga Queens left Cairo heads high despite missing the semi-finals ticket they were chasing, promising to give a better fight in the next edition of the Champions League.

The Queens during the competition had a great experience in the inaugural CAF Women Champions League in Cairo, Egypt.

Vihiga finished last in Group B with three points, level with River Angels of Nigeria who also exited as Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Morocco’s Asfar proceeded.

However, the players had a vast experience, from change of environment to change of culture among other different experiences.

According to some of the players, most of the things went well apart from the eating culture in the Arab country that made it difficult to adapt.

"When it came to food, there was no ugali nor greens," Alice Mideri.

"We couldn't even get toothpicks, and when we asked, they told us they use the natural one," another added.

“It was a very nice experience for us, I was just reading in the history books about Egypt without knowing that one day I will physically visit the country. It was also my first time to board a plane. We managed to visit the Pyramids of Cairo,” Vihiga Queens defender Selim Chemutai noted.

The Queens started their campaign on the wrong foot after going down 0-1 to South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in their opening match.

A 2-0 win over ASFAR Women from Morocco seemed to bring back hopes of a second-round entry, but the hopes quickly went down the drain when the Kenyan representatives were hammered 4-0 by Nigeria's River Angels.

In group B Mamelodi Sundowns topped the group as Moroccan side ASFAR Women came in second followed by River Angels leaving Vihiga queens at fourth.
