According to Ajax, former Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen is training with the club's reserve squad, Jong Ajax, as he seeks a new club.
Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during last year’s European Championships while representing his nation Denmark.
The 29-year-old Danish who terminated his contract with Milan in December 2021 has been fitted with a pacemaker.
As a result of being fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), the Danish footballer had to cancel his contract with Inter as professional athletes are not allowed to play with an ICD in Italy.
“Former Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen is training with Jong Ajax. Until he finds a new club, Eriksen will train with us,” Ajax, based in the Netherlands announced.
Eriksen was given the go ahead to return to his football career by his doctors in December after completing months of individual recovery.
“I am very happy to be here. At Ajax I know the people, it feels like coming home because I was here for so long.
“I am targeting being at my best again as soon as I can then embark on seeking a new club. I believe I will settle in quickly at my new club,” Eriksen noted.
The player who scored eight goals and one assist in 43 matches across all competitions for the Nerazzurri's in the 2020/21 season added that he was enjoying the state of the art facilities at Ajax.
Jong Ajax head coach, John Heitinga was quick to welcome Eriksen back to the club noting that the doors are always open for their former players including the Danish midfielder.
“If a former player and, moreover, a self-trained product of ours knocks on the door of the club in this situation, we have no doubts, of course, he’s welcome back.
“Christian is a footballer who is an example for many of our boys, a source of inspiration for the youth to move up,” John Heitinga stated.
