Argentina players have openly expressed their disappointment with host nation Chile, accusing the latter of offering them a poor reception.
On Thursday, January 27, Argentina visited their rival Chile for their World Cup qualifiers match and managed to snatch a 2-1 away win.
According to Argentina’s midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, his team was subjected to some rough off-field treatment by the Chileans before the clash.
The midfielder lamented that they were prevented from using the bathroom in Calama, Chile.
"As a team, when we got off the plane, we weren't allowed to use the toilet ,the air conditioning in our hotel was stopped, we had no water and there were sirens sound throughout our stay at the hotel,” Rodrigo revealed.
Rodrigo noted that Argentina, when hosting their guests, make them feel comfortable and would always go miles further in providing them with an enabling environment.
"I don't know whether it's right or wrong, but as a nation, if a team visits us, we make them feel as comfortable as possible,” Rodrigo added.
Argentina's coach, Walter Samuel, congratulated the side for a good performance despite their unexpected challenge.
"We have to improve in certain areas, but the team showed character despite the difficult environment," Samuel stated after taking charge of the match in the absence of head coach Lionel Scaloni and his assistant, Pablo Aimar.
The two were in isolation after contacting Covid-19 and being close contacts to the infected respectively.
The win against Chile saw Argentina qualify for the 2022 World Cup as they were second in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying campaign.
