Newly appointed Harambee Starlets coach, Alexander Alumirah, has opened up on how he has been victimised in the past for taking stands against certain issues.
Alumirah was appointed by the FKF Caretaker Committee to lead the women national team in its upcoming qualifiers.
He recounted how he has in the past been denied opportunities for taking a hard stance against what he termed as retrogressive.
“I have been victimized a lot because at times I criticize things that are not okay. There are times I can’t keep quiet over injustices and in most cases I have been denied opportunities. I have gone through hell,” Alumirah lamented.
On his recent appointment, he owes it to God and sheer hard work over the years.
“It’s not easy being appointed as the national team coach. If the country can entrust me with a role of such magnitude, it means I have what it takes,” Alumirah said.
Alumirah was introduced to coaching by revered coach Ramadhan Omar Matendechere, the father to former AFC Leopards midfielder Ramadhan Balala.
He moved on to coach Chavakali United Talent Academy where he would later found FKF Women Premier League (WPL) side, Vihiga Queens.
He won the WPL title three times with Vihiga Queens, where he boasts of grooming top talents, among them Gentrix Shikangwa, who most recently made a move to Turkey.
The new Starlets’ coach will however wait longer to be on the touchline for his maiden assignment after Kenya’s withdrawal from the Africa Women Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
The FKF Caretaker Committee has, however, condemned the letter and assured Kenyans that it will do all it takes to ensure that the Starlets are in the race.
