Chelsea will be among the first clubs to experience the use trial of ‘robot referees' when they play in the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi.
The new robot technology is expected to make automatic offside decisions within half a second, speeding up decision-making around marginal offside calls.
Special cameras that will be attached to the stadium's roof dubbed the limb-tracking system will animate the players through 29 data points.
This will help the video assistant referees (VAR) as they will make an instant alert to determine whether a player is onside or not and immediately relay the information to the referee.
According to FIFA, the technology will provide the coaches and the various team's technical benches to analyse the action from the point of view of a specific player on the pitch.
The technology is expected to be fully implemented by November for the 2022 World Cup after a successful trial in the recent Arab Cup, in Qatar.
Chelsea will become the first Premier League side to use this technology. The London based club will participate in the tournament after winning the Champions League in a 1-0 win over Manchester City.
The Premier League club is looking to win the competition for the first time after losing in their last attempt against Brazilian side Corinthians in the final in 2012.
Corinthians narrowly won the match, registering a 1-0 scoreline.
Chelsea, who are among ten teams who will take part in the tournament, will face either Egyptian side Al Ahly, Al Jazira Club or New Zealand's Auckland City.
Brazilian based club Palmeiras is the only other club that has booked their spot in the semi-final.
