Kenyan and Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, will make his indoor debut on February 4, in France.

The African 100m record holder will make his indoor debut when he lines up at the Miramas Métropole Indoor meet in France, a World Athletics Indoor Tour bronze label race.

The 100 metres athlete believes that the indoor races will help him cut a bit of his start time as he sets to improve on his movement off the blocks.

“I am excited about the indoor season. Previously, I have been watching it just on the television. However, now I am among the competitors.

“During my two months of training, I have been focusing a lot on block starts because I am trying to perfect my start,” Omanyala stated.

Omanyala has pointed out that in his previous races, his starts have not been perfect as he seeks to improve them.

“If I run the 60 metres, I will try to step faster in the first part of the race and once I get used to this, the 100m will be faster. If I can perfect my skill in the first 50m, then I can cut a few seconds of my time because I have a very good acceleration in the last 50m. Definitely I can run faster than 9.77secs,” Omanyala noted.

Omanyala arrived in France on Tuesday, February 1, and has been training since then. He noted that he was ready to battle for the stadium record of 6.68seconds.

“I am excited to be here of course and my target is to run a good race. If I have the possibility of going for the stadium record then why not?” Omanyala posed.

After the February 4 race, Omanyala will be heading to Paris where he is scheduled to take part in three more races.
