The Most Expensive Football Shirt Ever Sold

The most expensive football shirt ever sold is the No. 10 shirt worn by Brazil legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele, during the 1970 World Cup final. 

The football shirt was bought at Christie's, London on March 27, 2002 at a price of Ksh24 million (£157,750). 

The shirt was worn by Pele when he scored the first goal in the final against Italy in a match that ended in a 4 - 1 victory as Brazil was crowned the world champions.

After the match, Pele exchanged shirts with former Italy international, Roberto Rosarto, who later sold it three times the expected price.

The buying price was estimated at between Ksh4 million (£30,000) and Ksh7 million (£50,000). 

The shirt of the legendary Brazilian was purchased by an anonymous buyer through the phone. 

The legendary footballer, who is regarded, as one of the greatest ever, finished the 1970 World Cup with four goals. 

Pele has many accolades with him being a three-time World Cup winner and also Brazil's all-time top goalscorer, with 77 goals in 92 games. 

The former Brazilian striker also helped his different clubs lift various trophies with six Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A titles and two Copa Libertadores trophies. 

Before setting the record, England International Sir Geoff Hurst's shirt worn in the 1966 World Cup against Germany was the most expensive at a cost of Ksh14 million and was sold in September 2000. 

The former England player scored a hat-trick that helped the three Lions win the match securing England's first World Cup title.
