Roman Abramovich has come out and stated that he will be selling the club with the proceeds from the sale being directed to help those affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine, after Russia's invasion.

He clarified that the sale of the club would follow due process assuring he would not take any loans that will require him once handover is completed.

“This has never been about business nor money for me, but about pure passion for the game and Club. Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated.

“The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine. This includes providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long-term work of recovery.

The Russian billionaire added that he decided to sell the club after wide consultation and that it was a difficult decision to make as he holds the club dearly to his heart.

“Please know that this has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, and it pains me to part with the Club in this manner. However, I do believe this is in the best interest of the Club.

“I hope that I will be able to visit Stamford Bridge one last time to say goodbye to all of you in person.

“It has been a privilege of a lifetime to be part of Chelsea FC and I am proud of all our joint achievements. Chelsea Football Club and its supporters will always be in my heart,” his statement read.

One of the potential buyers of the Premier League side is Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss who claimed that he and other three people had been offered to purchase and take over the Blues from Roman Abramovich.

The 86-year-old billionaire noted that what Abramovic was requesting from him was far too much.

"I have to wait four to five days now. Abramovich is currently asking far too much. You know, Chelsea owe him Ksh303 billion (£2billion),” he noted.
