For athletes, training at a state of the art facility improves their skills and readies them for races.

Hosting and staging athletes' competitions requires a high calibre of sports facilities with conducive infrastructures.

A standard athletics track is of 400m distance with the centre area being used for activities such as football, rugby or other field games. However this is not the same case at the Michael Johnson Track.

Located in Beaverton, Oregon the Michael Johnson track at Nike’s world headquarters, is among some of the amazing tracks in the world.

It has only five lanes in between a forest of Wester Conifers. Some of the star athletes who have trained at the facility include Galen Rupp and Mary Cain.

The oval track that is found on the Nike property is named after one of the greatest athletes ever, Michael Johnson whose statue is present at the finish line.

Johnson's statue is made of bronze with the retired sprinter wearing his famous golden running shoes from the Atlanta 1996 Olympics.

The retired American sprinter is the former 200m and 400-metre champion, having won four Olympic gold medals and eight World Championship gold medals.

He appeared at the Olympic finals wearing the custom-designed pair of golden-coloured Nike racing spikes which made him earn the nickname "The Man With the Golden Shoes".

The 54-year-old, after his retirement, focused on motivational speaking and sports commentary among other engagements.
