However, there is a number who were born and raised in well off families.

Tom Bush Wamukota - Basketball
Tom Bush Wamukota plies his trade in Juba where he plays for South Sudan basketball side Cobra Sport.
The 28-year-old basketballer has featured for Kenya's National Basketball team, Morans and also in the Basketball Africa League.
Bush is the son of Kenyan politician and Webuye West Member of Parliament Dan Wanyama
The MP is a former Kenyan Volleyballer who captained the men’s national team before he retired and joined politics.
Eugene Asike - Football
Eugine Asike is a Kenyan football player who plays for Kenya Premier League champions Tusker FC.
The Tusker centre back is the son of a Court of Appeal Judge who serves at the Appellate's Court Criminal Division.
Paul Wekesa - Tennis
Paul Wekesa is a former professional tennis player who won 3 doubles titles and was ranked 100th after reaching two quarterfinals.
Wekesa has a professional record of 27 wins and 43 losses. He won a Bronze medal for Kenya in the 1987 All-Africa Games held in Nairobi.
The legendary tennis player is the son of former Cabinet Minister Noah Wekesa. After his retirement, Paul worked as the coach of Kenya's national tennis team.
In 2007 he was inducted into the hall of fame category in the Kenyan Sports Personality of the year award.
McRae Kimathi - Rallying
He is an upcoming rally driver who set a new record in February 2022 when he became the first Kenyan to enter the FIA.
Kimathi is also the fourth African motorist to ever participate in Junior WRC.
The rally driver is the son of one of the greatest rally drivers Phineas Kimathi who currently serves as the President of the Kenya Motorsport Federation and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the World Rally Championship (WRC).
Martin Keino - Athletics
Son of the 1968 Olympic gold medalist Kipchoge Keino, Martin Keino charted his own way, different from his father.
Unlike his father who ran and won titles, Martin used to act as a pacesetter for athletes aspiring to break world records.
During his racing days, Martin helped set seven world records, for athletes like Daniel Komen, Haile Gebrselassie and Kenenisa Bekele.
