The 27-year-old striker also holds the record of being the only player in the history of the league to have scored five goals in one half of a match.

However, despite his brilliance in front of the goal, he was unable to help his team clinch the league title as Al Sadd successfully defended the trophy.

Al Duhail took to their website and congratulated their striker noting that he achieved the landmark despite struggling with injuries.

“Team striker Michael Olunga earned the Top Scorer title in the QNB Stars League by scoring 24 goals in the season that ended this evening.

“Olunga was able to show his full scoring skills with the team, despite missing several matches owing to injuries.

“He set a record in the league after scoring five goals against Al Sailiya in one half of the match when he was subbed in,” the club's statement read.

Olunga, as the year started, was also named as the 2021 Asian Champions League top scorer with nine goals.

During his stint in Japan, Olunga was the 2020 Japanese J1 League Top Scorer with 28 goals and was also the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Before his exit from the Kenyan League, Olunga was named the Player of the Year in 2015 while playing for record champions Gor Mahia.
