In his recent races, the 37-year-old long distance runner has been spotted running with detached sleeves on his arms leaving many with unanswered questions.

Many athletes have embraced the use of running arm sleeves. Arm sleeves are mainly worn for the benefits of the compression they provide.

According to some sports medicine reports, compression helps to stabilise the arm muscles.

The arm sleeves are also known to boost blood flow which helps in athletes recovery after hard exercise or minor injuries.

With the compression, lactic acid that may have build up in the muscles is cleared, preventing cramps during the races and allowing fast recovery.

The arm sleeve also protects athletes from UV exposure as the runners spend hours in the sun. The sleeves also keep the athlete's cool apart from helping them not get sunburns.
